TWO MEN DROWNED

FOUR COMPANIONS RESCUED BOATING FATALITY AT PAREMATA At about 2.30 yesterday afternoon six young men set out to cross the entrance to Paremata harbour in a flatbottomed boat, but when half-way across the boat capsized. The accident wail witnessed by Mr. William Mills, who saw the men thrown into the water in different directions, two of them hanging on to the boat. Mr. Mills immediately put off in a rowing boat and succeeded in rescuing four of the men. A brief search for the other two being unsuccessful, Mr. Mills landed the four men he had rescued. Four launches also went out to the scene of the accident to search for the missing men. but no sign of them could be found. The six men were all residents of Johnsonville and were interested in a “bach” at Paremata. The names of the missing men are:— JOHN NEWTON KING, age 23, residing at Railway Terrace, Johnsonville. JAMES REID MASTERTON, age 18, Trafalgar Street, Johnsonville. The names of the four men who were rescued are:— FRANK EDWARD STANBRIDGE, age 24, Aurora Road, Johnsonville.

GEORGE HENRY STANBRIDGE, age 22, Aurora Road, Johnsonville.

ALEXANDER GRAHAM JULIUS, age 19, Burgess Road, Johnsonville.

JOHN URQUART MASTERTON, age 22, Trafalgar Street, Johnsonville.

Constable Hooper, who was on patrol duty on the beach, was between Paremata and Plimmertou when the accident happened and as soon as he was informed what had occurred he immediately got in touch . with , the Johnsonville police and set in train a search for the two missing men. LAUNCH CAPSIZES FATAL ACCIDENT AT LAKE FERRY A boating fatality occurred at Lake Ferrv, Wairarapa, at about 7 o’clock last night, when John Lewis Johnston, a young man, of Wellington, was drowned. Few particulars were available last night, but it appears that Johnston and another man named Campbell, resident at Onepu Road, Lyall Bay, were proceeding from Wellington along the east coast in a launch. Thp boat suddenly capsized, precipitating the two men into the water. Johnston was drowned. The Martinborough police proceeded to the scene, but up to a late hour had not reported further.
