LODGE MEETINGS

MANCHESTER UNITY, 1.0.0. F. A meeting of the Loyal Antipodean Lodge, Manchester Unity, 1.0.0. F.,, was held recently, Bro. G. Snelling, N.G., presiding. One candidate was initiated into the lodge and order. After correspondence and routine business had been dealt with, Bro. 'Turner, 1.P.D.G.M., accompanied by Bros. T. Powell, G. Read and A. C. Blair, P.D.G.M.’s, were officially received as district officers, and were accorded lodge honours. Bro. Turner replying, apologised for Bro. R. Cook, D.G.M., on account of urgent business, aud for Bro. R. Bell, D.D.G.M., who were installing the officers for Sister Wallis Lodge. Bro. Turner and officers were then invited to install the officers for the ensuing term. The following were then presented to them: N.G., Bro. Exton; V.G., Bro. Smith; E.S., Bro. Berry; Warden, Bro. Partridge: guardian, Bro. Clellaud; 1.P.N.G., Bro. Snelling; L.M., Bro. Lynneberg; conductor, Bro. Craddock. Bro. Blair addressed the V.G. and Warden, Bro. Road, addressed the V.G. and lecture master, Bro. Powell, the E.S. and Bro. Turner, the I.P.N.G. Lodge honours were accorded the newly installed officers to which they suitably replied. The lodge then adjourned and a most- enjoyable evening was spent. Bro. G. Read, P.D.G.M., acted as chairman. Bros. A. G. Shrimpton, G.S., R.

Bell,' D.D.G.M., C. G. Turner, 1.P.D.G.M., and Bro. Davidson, P.G., a visitor from Tasmania, were present. After the loyal toast had been honoured, the following toast list was honoured: “Manchester Unity,” proposed by Bro. Davidson, reply by Bro. Shrimpton; “Antipodean Lodge,’ by Bro. Powell, P.D.G.M., reply by Bros. A. Guise, F. 8., and Bro. A. C. Blair, trustee; “Wellington District,” Bro. Brickman, reply by Bro. R. Bell; "Visitors,” Bro. R. K. Couper, reply by Bros. McGreevy (Britannia), G. Bell (Newtown), and Davidson, of Tasmania. A splendid programme of items were given by a quartet, Bros. Hammell and Messrs. Haines and Thompson, while songs were given by Bros. Wainwright, Willon, Scott and Quirke. On Saturday afternoon, in the British Sailors’ Society rooms, Cuba Street, which were kindly lent for the occasion, the children of the members of the Loyal Antipodean Lodge were entertained with their annual Christmas tree. There was the usual tree laden with toys, balloons, etc., and to the delight of the children “Father Christmas” arrived about 3.30 loaded with lollies, which he distributed amongst them, after which the toys from the tree were handed round to all children up to ten years. There was also a generous supply of ice creams, cakes, etc, A number of recitations, songs and a duet were given by a number of the small children. The singing of the National Anthem closed a happy children’s afternoon. A meeting of the Loyal Wellington Past: Grands Lodge, Manchester Unity, 1.0.0. F., was held on Wednesday evening, when Bro. R. Bell, D.D.G.M., as president, presided. The first part of the meeting was devoted to conferring past officers' degrees. Sister A. Muir, Bros. H. J. Exton, J. Waterhouse, N. D. Smith, J. R. Mcllraith, A. G. Wiltshire, and J. K. Wellwood were duly advanced to the E.S. degree by Bro. W. F. Holt, vice-president. Sisters E. Wagner, A. Muir, Bros. H. Cammock, C. K. Carmen, F. McGreevy, W. R. McKenzie, H. J. Exton, G. Bell, W. McWhinnie, and Bro. J. K. Wellwood had the past V.G. degree conferred on them by Bro. R. Bell, president. Sister E. Wagner, Bros. G, H. Snelling, B. Brickman, C. K. Carmen and Bro. Featherston received the past N.G. degree from Sister E. Tobin, lecture mistress. The offices of the lodge were then filled by the district officers as follow:—Bro, C. G. Turner, 1.P.D.G.M., occupying G.M, in absence of Bro. Cook, D.G.M., Bro. R. Bell, deputy grand master, Bro. G. Read, I.P. G.M., and Bro. G. E. Godber, secretary. Bro. E. W. Guise, P.G., acting as examining officer. The lodge resumed in the purple degree for the purpose of conferring the honourable purple degree on the following P.G.’s:—Sisters E. McFarlane, V. Wickham, Bros. B. Brickman, T. Lynneberg, and J, K, Wellwood. This having been accomplished, Bro. R. Bell extended a warm welcome to Bro. A. G. Davidson, P.G., from Loyal Victoria ’.Lodge, Queenstown. Bro. Davidson suitably replied and expressed pleasure at the warm reception he had received since arriving in Wellington. The following nominations were received for officers for the ensuing twelve months:—President, Bro. W. F. Holt; vicepresident, Bro. W. B. Brown; lecture master, Bos. Maguire and Wainwright; guardian, Bro. B, Brickman; warden, Bro. T. Lynneberg; conductor, Bros. A. Wainwright and E. Levy; management committee, Bros. E. Wells, C. Burnette, and A. Cook; ritual judges, Bros. E. W. Guise, W. B. Brown and B. Brickman; auditors, Bro. C. G. Turner and J. H. Kraft; secretary and treasurer, Bro. R. K. Couper. President R. Bell expressed regret at the impending departure of Bro. H. R. Johnson, who has been transferred to Auckland, and referred In eulogistic terms to the excellent work he had done on behalf of the order. Bro. Johnson replied, expressing his regret at the severance of the ties of friendship. He thanked Bro. Bell for his kind remarks regarding his services to. the order.

The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Combination Lodge, Manchester Unity, 1.0.0. F., was held in the lodge room. Johnsonville. recently. The noble grand, Bro. A. McWhinnie, presided over a fair attendance of members. After the usual business was disposed of, a discussion took place on the advisability of holding a lodge picnic, a committee being appointed to make inquiries and report to next meeting. Owing to next ordinary lodge night falling on New Year's Day, it was decided to hold next meeting bn January 15, 1929, when the N.G. requested all members to attend, so as to try and make final arrangements for a picnic. All visitors will be very cordially welcomed. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Rose of tlie -Valley Lodge was held recently. N.G. Bro. McKenzie presiding over a large gathering. During tlie evening a presentation was made to P.O. Bro. Johnson and Sister Johnson, who are leaving the . district. D.G.M. Bro. R. Bell presented Bro. and Sister Johnson with a smoker's companion .set. and a crystal set, on behalf of the members of tlie Wellington lodges. Bro. Noble presented on behalf of the Loyal Rose of the Valley a case of pipes to P.fi. Bro. Johnson, and a clock to Sister Johnson. After various brothers had spoken of Sister and P.G. Bro. Johnson's good work iii connection with the order, Bro. Johnson feelingly replied. Advantage was taken of the visit of the district officers to initiate two lady candidates. The following officers occupied the chairs: N.G., Sister Parnell, of Sister Wallis Lodge; V.G., P.G. Bro. Guise, district officer; I.P. N.G.. P.G. Bro. R. Bell, district officer; lecture master. P.D.G.M., Bro. Wiley; guardian, P.D.G.M., Bro. Blair; conductor, P.G. Bre. Bland. Two candidates were proposed. The lodge then adjourned for harmony and dancing, finishing up with “Auld Lang Syne.” The regular fortnightly meetingiof Loyal Sister Wallis Lodge, Manchester Unity, 1.0.0.F.,' was lield at tiie Oddfellows’ Hall, Clyde Quay, on December 11. The N.G;, Sister E. Parnell, presided over. a good attendance. Lodge honours were accorded visiting Bro. Davidson, of Australia. District officers were present to install the following sisters into their respective positions;—N.G., Sister A. Muir; V.G., Sister H. Julian; E.S., Sister G. Bedell; warden, Sister Bell; guardian, Sister Johns; pianist, Sister P. McCarthy; 1.P.N.G., Sister E. Parnell; lecture mistress, Sister E. McFarlane. At the close of the meeting, on behalf of officers and social committee, Sister E. Parnell made a small presentation to Sister Bunckenberg for services rendered.
