DISAPPOINTED COMPETITORS. The Chief of the Wellington Caledonian Society (Mr. R. 11. Nimino) stated last night that great disappointment hail been suffered by the Scots as the result of tlie annual sports meeting (which was to have been held on Boxing Day) having to be postponed, owing to the unsuitable weather. Competitors had come from all over New Zealand to take part in the sports, and the society would lose between £BO and £lOO through the postponement. This is the third successive year that we have had to postpone the sports,” said Mr. Ninimo. In 1926 we wanted the ground on Boxing Day. but owing to an oversight on the part of the. City Council, the Cricket. Association was given the Basin Reserve. In 1927, the Australasian athletic championships were held, and on Wednesday, when we were ready to hold the meeiing, after months of preparation, tlie rain forced us to eall it off.” . , , Mr. Ninimo stated that the society had asked the council to let it have the Busin Reserve for the sports on Saturday. January 5. The council has not jet agreed, hut under the circumstances, it is thought that the society’s wish will be met.
