CHINA’S NATIONALIST REGIME
SIGNIFICANT SALUTE NEW TARIFF AGREEMENT WITH FRANCE (Australian Press Association.) Hong-Kong, December 26. The French vessel Marne saluted the Chinese-gunboat Choyu in the Yangtze River off Nanking. The salute was in connection with the signing on December 22 of the new tariff agreement between China and France. The Choyu, flying the insignia of a RearAdmiral, returned the salute. Political circles commented on the fact that the French salute followed closely upon the twenty-one gun British salute given after Britain formally recognised the Nationalist regime.
