REMARKABLE CRIME

ATTEMPT TO ASPHYXIATE A WOMAN GAS CONDUCTED INTO BEDROOM BY HOSE (Rec. December 27, 11 p.m.) Sydney, December 27. A remarkable crime was reported by detectives to-day to have been perpetrated in a cottage in Arcadia Street. Coogee, occupied by Morris Levy, insurance' agent, bis wife, and a grown-up daughter. Somebody attached a garden hose to the gas meter and then placed the other end through the window where Miss Levy was sleeping. The fumes spread through the home and awakened Mr. Levy about 3 a.ni. . He hurriedly opened every window without striking a match, ami called to his daughter, who was unharmed The hose was not Levy's property. A man’s footprint was discovered near the daughter’s window. Levy deciares that he has not a solitary enemy, and his daughter knows uo reason why anyone should desire to take her life.
