ACCIDENT AT PETONE THREE INJURED AT GALA ONE VICTIM IN HOSPITAL As a result of the breaking of a support on the “ocean-wave” at the carnival which is being lipid on the Petone beach, three persons who were either on the appliance or iu its vicinity last night- were injured. Shortly before 10 p.m., when the “ocean wave,” which was well tilled, was whirling round at speed, a support of the base cracked, and broke. This caused the central pole to tilt, with the result that the head, which carries the ring of seating, came off, and crashed to the ground. A few of those on it managed to leap to the ground in time to save themselves. The apparatus is the property of Mr. F. Staig, of Hamilton, and forms a part of Staig’s Amusement Enterprise, which has been brought down to I’etone for the carnival. The Injured. Mary Kemp, single, aged 17, who resides iu Mason Street. Lower Hutt, was admitted to the hospital, suffering from slight injuries to her back and shock. Early this morning the hospital authorities stated that she was fairly comfortable. Nellie Prentice, aged 13, of IS Bay Street, Petone, who was near the ocean wave when the accident occurred, was taken to her home, having sustained an injury to her left leg. She was knocked down, and a portion of the seat fell upon her. It will not be known definitely whether any bones have been broken until an X-ray examination has been made. Gwendoline Wilson, of 33 Beach Street, Petone. who was on the machine fell backwards, and sustained an injury to her back. She was taken to her. home.
