Sunday was the 40th anniversary of Archbishop Averill’s ordination to the priesthood. His Grace mentioned this at a social gathering held on Saturday evening in honour of Archdeacon Mac Murray, who on that day completed 50 years’ ministry (states Monday’s Auckland “Star”). On Sunday morning the Archbishop confirmed over 30 candidates at the annual confirmation service in St. Matthew’s Church.

Mr. W. F. Boyle, United States Consul at Auckland, was expected to leave America yesterday on his return to New Zealand. He has been visiting Washington. Pastor D. Neild, of Wellington, left last night for the north. Information has been received that Mr. W. P. Cochrance has been appointed as successor to Mr. Walter Boyle, Consul for the United States in Auckland, and that he will arrive in February, states a “Dominion” Special Service message from Auckland. Mr. Cochrance visited New Zealand in August, 1925, with the United States battle fleet, and he then remained in the Dominion for some time. He later left the Navy to enter the Consular corps.
