FROM FAR AND NEAR Poison Liquon—An Australian Press Association message from New York states that as a result of Christmas celebrations, six people died of poisou liquor, and several cases are Reported to be critical. A total of fifty-eight drinkers were taken to hospitals, a number of whom are suffering from .delirium tremens. Several women are -among those poisoned. Fire in New South Wales Town.—A Press Association message from Griffith, New South Waljs, states' that a store and premises owned by W. Carney were gutted by fire. The damage is estimated at £lO,OOO. The fire brigade, which was inaugurated last week, but which did not officially start duty until the New Year, turped out and rendered every assistance. : Fatal Shooting Accident. — Frederick George Knapp, of Motueka, who was injured in a shooting accident some days ago and later had his leg amputated, died on Tuesday, states a Press Association message from Nelson.
