SHOOTING MYSTERY

DEATH OF YOUNG BOY Melbourne, December 26. While his mother in the city on Monday was buying toys for Christmas, Jack Pope, aged 10, was shot dead in his home at Moorabbin. Shortly after the tragedy his elder brother, Philip, aged 14, left the house, and has not been seen since. The fatal weapon was a shotgun, and one barrel was found discharged. Five other young children in the house were unable to say how the shooting occurred. They onjy knew that Philip had gone, saying that he would tell mother and the police of the shooting. The father was away at work, and the mother returned to find Jack lying in the passage. The gun had been replaced on the nail on which it hung in the father’s room.
