YACHT DISABLED AT SEA

MAKES PORT IN CRIPPLED CONDITION

Dominion Special Service.

Auckland, December 26.

Considerable anxiety was felt in Auckland yesterday and this morning concerning the whereabouts of the yacht Wairiki, which left Auckland on Saturday afternoon as a competitor in the annual ocean race to Tauranga. The yacht and her crew of five reached Coromandel safe and sound at ten o’clock this morning. When off. Cape Colville at about 2.30 a.m. on Sunday a shroud broke and the vessel was turned round on another tack, when immediately a back stay also gave way. Despite the crippled condition of the yacht the crew managed to make To Kouma on Sunday, and there the vessel remained for two days. This morning, having effected repairs, andconsidering that relatives of those On board would be alarmed, the yacht was sailed to Coromandel, whence the news of her safety was 'phoned to Auckland.
