London, November 15. Rumours that'Sir William Tyrell is likely to close some of the apartments of the British Embassy in Paris, are without foundation. Whenever a new Ambassador takes over the magnificent house in the Rue Faubourg, St. Honore, .gossip about a dimming of globes in the British headquarters in Paris invariably is invented, and disproved only by the course of events. The house was bought by the Duke of Wellington from Pauline Borghese, Napoleon’s granddaughter, and presented to the British nation, complete with the furniture, in pure Empire style. Its upkeep is no light matter in modern days, but the house is none too large for the hospitality that it is a duty of the British Ambassador to dispense. Already, since Sir William Tyrell went to Paris, the Prime Minister and Mr. Churchill have been guests at the Embassy. Every day, callers by the score leave cards at the Embassy, and many of these receive a courtesy .“bidding” later on. So far. the Ambassador's daughter has been acting as hostess at the Embassy, but this month Lady Tyrell will join them. She remained in England for a time, to finish an ambitious literary undertaking, a history of the world, specially adapted for tire use of children. One member of the Tyrell household has acquired unexpected fame in Paris—the Ambassador’s amiable bull-terrier, once a very well known “character” at the Foreign Office, in Whitehall.
