RHODES SCHOLARS DO WELL

SUCCESSFUL AMERICANS Dominion Special Service. London, November 15. Rhodes scholars who have returned to the United States after being educated at Oxford University have made outstanding contributions to American life, according to Dr. Frank Aydelotte, president of Swarthmore College, and American secretary of the Rhodes Trust. Of the 550 former Rhodes scholars now in the United States, seventy-two have found a place in the American ‘‘Who's Who,” and approximately 200 are engaged in commercial and professional pursuits of unusual responsibility. “Sixty Rhodes scholars have become professors in leading universities and colleges in the United States,” said Dr. Aydelotte, “and of this number sixteen have made outstanding important research contributions. The ranks of Rhodes scholars include five college presidents, nine deans, five officers of foundations, and six heads of preparatory schools. Thirty returned Rhodes scholars are members of nationallyknown law firms. Eleven have attained high places in the Ministry. Nine authors and nine outstanding journalists are included in their number. All these men have attained positions where the mention of their names brings instant recognition in their respective professional fields. And it must be remembered that this record is made, despite the fact that only 140 of the men educated under the Rhodes scholarships have reached forty years of age.” Dr. Aydelotte declared thnt the Oxford trust fund, recently established by tjig Association of American Rhodes Scholars, constituted one of the finest moves, in international education and friendship ever made. Evidently the popular impression that Rhodes scholars devote themselves mainly to athletics is quite wrong.
