LAWN TENNIS

MARTINBOROUGH TOURNAMENT

DELAYED.

Mastertoll, December 26.

Unfortunate weather prevailed for the opening of the Martinborough tenuis tournament to-day, a steady, although light rain falling, and rendering the courts impossible for play. Early in the afternoon, one match was got off, N. Tucker defeating C. Ward, 60—44, in the men’s handicap singles. The tournament officials intend making every effort to put the programme through, despite the day’s enforced inactivity. The tourney will continue all this week, and entries are slightly better than was the case last year. They include such well-known players as Donovan, D. Eranee, Miss Brady, Mrs. Penlington (Wellington), and N. Bett (Gisborne).
