A motor-car accident in ’ Cuba Street, Petone, in October last, in which Mrs. Eliza Everett, aged about 63, was run over practically outside her own gate and received injuries from which she died in the Wellington Hospital on December 9, formed the subject of an inquest held before the coroner (Mr. E. Page, S.M.), in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. The evidence showed that the car was being driven along Cuba Street on a windy night. A cloud of dust rose in front of the car, and when it emerged from this the driver noticed deceased in the road immediately in front of him. He made an effort to avoid her, but was unsuccessful, Mrs. Everett being knocked down. The deceased bad lost her hat when going into her house, and had gone out into the street again with a view to recovering it. The coroner returned a verdict of accidental death. A very generous gift has been made to the Marlbprough Aero Club. by Mr K. Hall, of Hororata, who is one of its honorary members (says the “Express”). His machine, which met with an nnfortunatef’mishap. in Canterbury, had to be “written off as a flying unit. However, a large”section of the machine was undamaged, and Mr. Hall has now presented this to the club for use, as required, as spare parts for its own machines. The spares available include the tail plane, fin. rudder, one elevator, control cables, and some of the flying wires, struts, and fittings, all of which will be of use to the club. Tire parts will be certified as “airworthy” by the mechanics at Wigram before they are-delivered to the club.
