A POPULAR TEACHER

MR. A. A. KIRK FAREWELLED

In th? Concert Chamber of the Town Hall last night, Mr. A. A. Kirk, 8.A., who for the past seven years has been first assistant teacher at the Hataitai School, was farewelled by pupils and friends. Mr. Kirk, who has been a very popular master, is leaving the Hataitai School to take up the position of first assistant teacher at the Wellington South School. In presenting Mr. Kirk with a gold ■watch and chain on behalf of the scholars, the school committee, and parents, Mr. H. R. Searle, who is chairman of the Hataitai School Committee, said that the school would be very sorry indeed to lose the services of Mr. Kirk, who had done splendid work for the school and for the district as a whole. He wished the popular master every success, and expressed the hope that he would visit the school from time to time, and still take an interest in it.

Mr. L. {Fortune, president of the Old Scholars’ Association, paid a high tribute to the work of Mr. Kirk, saying that a more efficient or popular teacher could not be found. On behalf of the Hataitai School Old Scholars’ Association, Mr. Fortune presented Mr. Kirk with a handsome travelling-rug. Mr. B. Kean, who was the first headmaster of the school, Mr. <T. B. Grant, who took the former’s place when the left, and Mr. C. Robertson, the present headmaster, all spoke in glowing terms of Mr. Kirk, who suitably replied. The annual school concert, which was performed at the Methodist Schoolroom in Hataitai ou Monday night, was again repeated with great success.
