AMATEUR ATHLETICS

A PROTEST FROM OTAGO By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin. December 18. At a meeting of the Otago Centre of the Amateur Athletic Association, tonight, the president, Mr. E. L. Macassey, drew attention to the fact that the next New Zealand championships, and the next cross country championships would be held in Wellington, while the New Zealand championships for the 1929-30 season had been allotted to the Wanganui centre. He mentioned that the last Australian and New Zealand championships were held in Wellington, and the last cross country championship in Wanganui. He could not see why the championships should be allotted to Wanganui more than twelve months ahead. The position was that five successive championships would be held in the North Island. His contention was that the sport should be divided between the North Island and the South Island as equally as possible. It was decided to enter a protest against the holding of five successive championships in tbe North Island.
