ARMOURED PAY-CAR
NOT PROOF AGAINST BANDITS (‘‘Tinies” Cables.) New York, December 12. The First National Bank's armoured pay-car failed to hold its money against ten determined bandits who decamped with f 20,000. Just after daylight, a pay-roll truck entered Hudson Street, which was deserted except for a milkwagon. Two bandit cars came from the rear and ai' 1 until the milkman had returned from the delivery of an order. The bandits then confronted the milkman witli guns .- nd warned him t« stand still in silence. Then the bandit cars sped forward and whirled in ahead of the truck, forcing it to the kerb. The robbers fired several volleys, which smf>: lied the plate-glass window in front of the truck and vounded the driv r, ’“ho slumped in his seat. Then attacking the rear door, they machine-drilled a hole large en ugh for a bandit to insert his arm and and unlatch the (B-r. Residents were just beginning to take notice of shooting when the robbers decamped.
