REFORM v. UNITED

Sir,—ln to-day’s “Dominion” “Jus Tertii” says that Sir Joseph AV urd pas not. a majority over Mr. Coates- In the same issue “The Dominion’, credits Ke-, form with 28 seats and United with -.<■ According to your evening contemporary United has 27 and Reform 26 and two Independent Reform. There are five other Independent members. I have not heard any one remark that they would support Reform and they are not Reform Independents,’ so therefore I take it they are United Independents, at least, say three, out of the five and the other two Labour Independents. , j T According to the above, figures (and I think that they are a fair average) bir Joseph Ward would have a majority ot two over Mr. Contes. Even leaving, all the Independents out, Sir Joseph Ward still has a majority of one. “Jus Tertii” also says that Sir Joseph W r ard is anxious to jump into Mr. ■Coates’s position. It appears to me that “Jus Tertii” is just as anxious for Mr. Coates to hang on, although he is one seat behind Sir Joseph Ward. No doubt it is hard to take a beating, but Jus Tertii” is not the first one that has had to take one nor will ho be the last, but some of us take a beating in a more sporting spirit than others.—-I am. etc., AN EJj&v-LOli.
