JUDGE: AND LAW SOCIETY
. Si r —As it is not in keeping with the dignity of a.Judge or any other judicial officer to answer through the Press or from the Bench any complaints or slights that may have been published or circulated about him, permit ine to take up the cudgels on behalf of Mr. Justice 1 razer, whose appointment as a temporary Judge of the Supreme Court has been attacked bv the Wellington Law Society. First of all, let me point out that the society's protest is wroftg in point of fact, for'the learned Judge was in active practice at the Bar prior to his elevation to the Magistracy. Surely his long and masterly' service, both on the Magistrates .bench' and. in the Arbitration Court has better- fitted him to judge Ins fellow men and administer the laws of the country than does the ordinary work of a barrister. Many a man makes a pood advocate. but few have the judicial ability ot Mr. Justice Frazer. I find it hard to discover on the surface any reason to prompt the society in objecting to his appointment, and feel sure that it. is not “-the voice of the peo-"1P”-1 “ m ’ FAIRPLAY. November. 23.
