PREPARATIONS FOR ENTHRONEMENT DRASTIC MEASURES BY THE POLICE (Australian Press Association.) (Rec. • November 5. 5.5 p.m.) Tokio, November 4. Thirty thousand police have been mobilised for service in Tokio and Kioto, three times the number engaged at the enthronement in 1915. On Tuesday all traffic will be stopped in the centre of the city, while a cordon of thousands of police will be thrown round the palace, preventing the public from approaching after 3 a.m. Regulations of unprecedented strictness testify to the nervousness of the police. Cue thousand suspected persons have been lodged in gaol for the remainder of the month. BRITISH MISSION TO JAPAN (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, November 4. One of the Royal Princes will next, year head a mission to Japan to present the Emperor Hirohito with the insignia of the Order of the Garter. Prince Arthur of Connaught headed a similar mission to the grandfather of the present Emperor of Japan in 1905. and also to the late Emperor just before the war. In the- present case the mission will be performed by one of the sons of the King and Queen.
