LATE MR. H. M. RATHBONE

IMPRESSIVE FUNERAL AT WAIPAW'A.

The wide respect in which the late Mr, H. M. Rathbone, Mayor of Walpawa, who died as the result of a street accident, was held throughout file district was proved by the large attendance at the funeral on Friday last. Business premises in Waipawa were closed from 2 to 4 p.m. After a service at “Abbotsford,’ conducted by Archdeacon Cullwick and the Rev. J. Pigott, in the presence of the family and relatives, tlie cortege moved off to Hadley cemetery. The members of the Borough Council acted as pall-bearers. Pupils of tlie secondary department of the High School and upper standards of the primary department lined botn sides of the roail leading from “Abbotsford.’ At the cemetery the casket was borne between two lines of members of Abbotsford Lodge of Oddfellows, to the last resting place. The impressive service for the dead was conducted by Archdeacon Cullwick, Revs. J. Pigott, and R. T. Hall, and Canon E. D. Rice. P.G.M. Bro. A. Fire Brigade, Municipal Band, Plnnket Society, Waipawa Borough employees, Women’s Institute, Waipawa Savage Club, Rathbone Maternity Home, Waipawa District Hospital, Nanior Borough Council, Hawke’s Day A. and P. Society, Waipnkurau Borough Council, H.B. Rugby Union, Returned Soldiers’ Association. , _ . . A memorial service was conducted in St. Peter’s Church. Waipawa, on Sunday evening by the Rev. J. Pigott.
