Unemployment is the result first, and mainly, of economic disturbances in other parts of the world; the result of high wages, without high, or higher, productionthe result in part of deliberate low production; the result of misdirected national effort —of urbanisation, with its necessary neglect of rural industries and interests; the result in an appreciable degree of castiron unionism and of the Arbitration Court; the result of the fact that Labour, in spite of what it may say now, or at least said on Friday, has opposed payment by results, and still opposes it whenever a serious attempt is made to introduce it. Labour knows all these things—certainly Mr Holland does—quite as well as it knows how many seats it must have in Parliament to get control of the Government, but it is so anxious for control that it stoops to these disgraceful tricks instead of acknowledging the effort the Government has made to relieve unemployment, and turning-to like everyone else to help.—Christchurch “Press.” THE WAISTCOAT POCKET REMEDY.
