NATIONAL DAIRY ASSOCIATION CHANGE OF CONSTITUTION CONSIDERED Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, June 19. The question of whether the constitution of the National Dairy Association' should be reconstructed and the organisation formed into a limited liability company was dLcussed at length by delegates attending the annual conference of the association at Palmerston to-day. In bringing the question before the conference, the president (Mr. A. Morton) said he believed the formation of a limited liability company would be in the best interests of the association. Such a step, however, was not desirable unless the association had the whole-hearted support of the dairying indu ry. That support was wanted, but it would be more than necessary if they formed themselves into a limited liability company. Mr. Morton explained that at present the association was financed by means of promissory notes given by companies that were members of the association. Under the proposed new scheme the association would be financed by share capital taken up by companies. Shares would be allocated on a graduated scale based on a company’s tonnage output. It was not proposed to alter the system of voting. At present voting was according to the size of the subscriptions paid, and if a limited liability company were formed voting would be on a basis of share capital taken up. Before a change could be made it would be necessary to have a 75 per cent, majority of the meeting in favour of the proposals. After a large number of speakers had expressed their views, some favouring the proposals and others opposing it, a Resolution recommending the formation of a limited company was put to tl.„ vote. It failed, however, to secure the required majority, and was consequently defeated. An amendment suggesting that a committee be set up to engage an accountant to examine and report upon the business management of the association, and to make recommendations for the more profitable working of the association, was defeated. ■ When the defeat of the resolution had been announced, Mr. Morton urged all members to give the association their sunnort ‘ by taking promissory notes. From the feeling of the meeting, he said, it was apparent that the association had to continue.
Next Conference. Whangarei was selected as the meeting place of next year’s conference.
