DAIRY FACTORY MANAGERS
ANNUAL CONFERENCE
RESOLUTION TO FORM A FEDERATION Palmerston North, June 19. . Mr G. Woods (Ngaere) presided at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Dairy Factory Managers’ Association, at the Manawatu Show, in Palmerston to-night, there being about 50 members present, including Messrs J. Proud and F. G. Martin (Victoria), and A. E. Gweaney (N.S.W.). Tlie annual report recorded that the finances of the association were satisfactory, and proceeded to state that grading figures for 1927-28 were 75,223 tons of butter, and 75,314 tons 'of cheese, compared with (58,392 tons of butter, and 75.758 tons of cheese in 1926-27. The quality of the butter had been well maintained during the season, the average gr.qde points being identical to one decimal place With those of the preceding season at 92.7. There had been a little reduction in the percentage of the total placed as “second grade,” and a slight reduction in the percentage placed as "finest." Doubtless, the grading of cream, and the payment of the premium for higher grades had been factors operating in tlie direction of maintaining Hie quality. The position with res- ?ct to cheese was not so satisfactory as that pertaining to butter. The season just concluded had been, as a. whole Jess favourable to the manufacture of Ihe highest quality, and many managers had had trying experiences. While there had been a pleasing reduct ion in the proportion of cheese classed as second grade, there had, o:i the other hand, been a considerable increase in the proportion classed as finest.
It was gratifying lo note that Hie Government Laboratory and experimental factory x..is in course of erecfi i. and Hie report; predicted much benefit from these facilities. It was confidently anticipated that the asso- < ' ion would, at an early dale, be represented on the Dairy Research Management Committee of Massey College hi a manner and of such a status ns the-association's relation to the industry warrant'Ml. The report was .-'.dopleil without discussion. Dominicii Federation.
