MUSSULMAN RELIGION

DRASTIC REFORM PROPOSALS SUGGESTED BY TURKISH COMMISSION f (Australian Press Association.) (Rec. June 19, 10.5 p.m.) Constantinople, June 19. Following the separation of Church from State on April 9. a special commission has submitted drastic proposals for reform of the Mussulman religion, which it believes should follow the march of progress. The commission suggests voice training for Muezzins and the introduction of musical instruments into the mosques, the provision of pews and cloak-rooms. Worshippers should lie no longer required to remove their shoes, and the liturgical language should be Turkish. The commission favours the training of' preachers from the laity. It expresses the opinion that with the new methods the Koran can lie rendered comprehensible to all and the religion of Islam given a new value.
