AUCKLAND V. WELLINGTON. .1* The first telegraphic chess matches of the present se-.sou are scheduled to commence at 6 p.m. on Saturday next. They are: Otago v. Canterbury, and Welling ton v. Auckland. The Otago Chess Club can be relied on to make a determined effort to retain the laurels that it won a year ago, when the club championship of the Dominion went to the South Island for the first time. It. is considered doubtful if the four leading clubs in New Zea land have ever been so well matched j they appear to be at the present time. The name of the 'Wellington Club’s umpire is not yet available. Mr. G. A. Hurley is to lot’ after the interests of the Auckland iiess Club at this end. The twenty players to represent the local club will be chosen fiom the following:— Messrs. Anderson, Craven, Deck, Fouhy, Grady, Godtscb'”.- Grabham, Gyles (2), E. A. Hicks, Hardy, Jessup, Kelling, Kline, Lee. Mason, Mackay, McCrea, Purcbas, Tanner, Taylor. Thompson. Wigham. W. White, and Wring. Sjine of the Wellin-ton Club’s prominent players are not included in the above list, as their services are not available on this occasion.
