DAYLIGHT SAVING
APPRECIATION OF MR; T. K. SIDEY’S SERVICES.
At a recent meeting of the executive committee of the “Summer Time” appreciation movement, it was reported that in Wellington more than 5000 persons had Voluntarily subscribed to mark their approval of the passing of the “Summer Time” Act during last session of Parliament. Numerous expressions of opinion Jiad been received to the effect that the change had been beneficial to the general health of the people, particularly to school children, aud while efficiency in both primary and secondary industries has been maintained, the change had been a great boon to all indoor workers. The committee were convinced that any slight inconvenience reported from country districts could easily be adjusted in industries where the hours of working were not arbitrarily fixed. It was decided to give Mr. T. K. Sidey, M.P., every assistance in his efforts next session to place the measure permanently on the Statute Book. No definite decision was arrived at as to how Mr. Sidey’s services up to the present should be recognised. The most popular suggestion was that a medal be struck to be known as the “T. K. Sidey Summer Time Medal,” to be awarded periodically, together with a substantial monetary prize, to the person who had made the most valuable contribution to our knowledge of light as it related to human welfare. The committee decided that the fund remain open meanwhile, so that many persons who would like to subscribe may still have an opportunity to do so.. The maximum subscription is Is.
