Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., aud Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report as follows:— At the first cruteliing and oddment sale of the season, there was a total offering of about 3200 bales submitted by all brokers. Buyers were present in full numbers, anil competition was exceedingly keen throughout the sale. MURRAY ROBERTS AND CO., LTD. Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co. report' that their catalogue comprised 539 bales. The offering consisted principally of crutchings, but there was also a 1 fair quantity of cross-bred fleece, besides odd lots of lambs wool and pieces. Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., report that there were representatives of Bradford, the Continent. Canada. Japan. Australia, Dominion mills and fellijiongers. all ot whom seemed eager to obtain wool at their limits, and competed freely for their various requirements. Local scourers found it difficult to procure their usual winter requirements, owing to the strong, all-round competition from overseas buyers. Their catalogue comprised 792 bales, and they quitted the whole, with the exception of a few odd lots. The bulk of the offering comprised crutchings, and there were, several parcels of fleece wool, in addition to a small quantity of scouring wools. Merino .and halfbred crutchings were in short supply. Superior lots of crossbred crutchings met with keen competition, mainly from Japanese buyers,' aud the local mills. LOAN AND MERCANTILE AGENCY COMPANY, The New Zealand Loan aud Mercantile Agency Company reports that competition for fleece and, crutchings was very’ keen and practically every lot changed hands at exceedingly satisfactory prices.' WAIRARAI’A FARMERS' CO-OPERA-TIVE ASSOCIATION. The Wairarapa Farmers’ Co-operative Association. Ltd., report that their catalogue contained some choice lines from the Wairarapa and they sold practically the whole offering under the hammer. Messrs Dalgety aud Company, Limited, report a very sound sale, with excellent prices for good, well classed crutchings. Local scourers were well in the market fof medium seedy lots, and this class of wool sold remarkably well. Very seedy lines also met good competition from the same source. They offered a considerable quantity of merino and halfbred crutchings. also eye clips and second crutchings. principally from the Marlboroughdistrict. Any lines of these, being free from seed, 'were eagerly competed for, and generally taken by local mills. Briefly, the sale was very sound, prices being all through, slightly above brokers ideas of values. They offered 548 bales, their top price for crossbred crutchings being IGJd. lor the well known Huiarau brand, aud for merino crutchings.
