SAILORS’ FRIEND SOCIETY

A bright evening was experienced by a big crowd of seafarers at the concert given on Tuesday at the Sailors Friend Society by members of the New Zealand Alliance. Many encores were demanded. Light refreshments were handed round in an interval. The performers were Mrs. Gandall, the Misses N. Collins, G. Gunn. Sutherland, Strong, Bennett and Smith, Messrs. K. Strong, Boyes, N. Rowe. Miss N. Collins was at the piano. “Held By the Enemy” was the subject chosen by Mr. J. Moore for his temperance chat. Pledges followed. The compe-

titions again afforded the men opportunities for showing their skill. The prizes donated by some well-wishers went to the Mahia, Matakana, Tongariro, and Somerset.
