MANAWATU EASTER TOURNAMENT SECOND DAY’S PLAY Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, April 9. Golfing conditions for the second day of the Manawatu Men’s Golf Club’s annual Easter tournament were considerably better to-day, there being a total absence of wind. ’ The golf forthcoming was both very good and indifferent. Several players getting “birdies,” while the same players would return mediocre cards through getting into difficulties elsewhere. Ihe morning was devoted to the first rounds of the Open Championship and the Hokowhitu Handicap, while in the afternoon the second rounds were decided. Finality will be reached in these events to-mor-row, when the tournament will conclude.

The biggest defeat of the morning was that inflicted by L. Seifert, jun., on R. W. McKee, another very promising young Manawatu player/ who, for a second year boy, did remarkably well to qualify for the Open Championship. This morning McKee suffered from an attack of nerves, and failed to do himself justice. Seifert’s forte was his second shots, which invariably got him to within easy distance of the cup. Seifert went out in bogey—39—and at the turn stood 7 up on his opponent—the remaining two holes being halved in one over bogey figures. Bogey at the tenth and par at the next gave Seifert the decision, 9 and 7.

The present Manawatu Club champion, W. A. Keeling, met a Wanganui man in J. S. Harrison, and won his way into the second round, 3 and 2. Keeling took one under bogey to cover the 15 holes. Harrison got some good holes, but was inconsistent. He was right on his form when he carded a “birdie” at the eighth hole—23S yards. Another player to get a “birdie” was the Shannon and ex-Scottish player H.

Blyth, vdio this morning defeated C. G. Moore. Strangely enough. Blyth holed out in two at the same hole as Harrison.

D. , Pharazyn, Hastings, who five years ago captained the Cambridge ’Varsity golf team, had little difficulty in accounting for -W. Seifert (Manawatu), 7 and 6. Pharazyn went out in 37—two under bogey—and at the turn stood four up. He then took the first three holes home, and the match terminated at the twelfth hole in favour of the visitor, 7 and 6. W. Seifert carded a "birdie,” two at the ninth hole --136 yards—being the third in the morning to break par. The match of the day was the meeting of L. B. Rhodes (Wanganui) and D. Pharazyn (Hastings), in the second round, victory resting with the former, 3 and 2. Rhodes was right on his driving, and his approach shots were faultless, and it is to be regretted that he did not have better luck with his putts. As it was he returned.a card of 74 (3G out and 38 in). Save at the fourteenth and seventh holes, where he wasted a putt, Rhodes stuck to par figures going out, while on the home run the eleventh and fifteenth were the only two where lie had to go over par, his total of 74 being 5 under bogey for the course and 4 over par. Another good match in the same round was the L. Seifert —O. 11. Druce match, in which Druce, after being 3 down and 5 to plav, drew level and won the match at the eighteenth hole. Druce was right on his putting, while Seifert showed a tendency to slice his drives. From the fourteenth hole on Druce could do nothing wrong. The fourteenth and fifteenth he did in 3 s, setting a “birdie” at both. A third fell to bis lot when he accomplished the 17th in 3. At this hole he sank a lone putt to stand all square. The last hole saw him sink in four. L. Seifort Junior requiring one more to find the cup. DETAILED RESULTS CHAMPIONSHIP. First Round :—L Seifert Junior (Manawatu), beat R. W.
