RAILWAY CONFERENCE
NEW ZEALAND DELEGATE AT MELBOURNE Dominion Special Service. Auckland, April 9. For the first time in its history, the Australian and New Zealand General Railway Officers’ Conference, recentlv concluded in "Melbourne, was presided over by a New Zealand delegate. This honour was done Mr. G. S. Lynde, chief mechanical engineer of the New Zealand railways, the only representative of the Dominion present. Mr. Lynde, wno, with Mrs. Lynde, returned to Auckland by the Aorangi, stated that the agenda-paper was the longest yet' discussed at these confereir es. and contained many important and Interesting subjects. In. Mr. Lynde s opinion these conferences cannot but result in good for the railway systems of Australia and New Zealand, and therefore for the’ communities they serve. During his brief stay in Australia lie was able to visit the New South Wales Government, tnilw-tj. workshops and the Victorian and South Australian railway workshops, and he also had an opportunity of looking over the coal-handling appliances, the new “Pacific” and “Mountain” types of locomotives, and the new observation and dining cars. He was greatly impressed by all he saw in Sydney. He enjoved special facilities for seeing the new underground railway mid the largest bridge undertaking the world has ever seen, the harbour bridge. Mr. and Mrs. Lynde will continue their journey to Wellington to morrow.
