A halfcrown income-tax is.a practical proposition unfolded by Sir Godfrey Collins, chief Liberal Whip, when, addressing the Liberals of Greenock, for which he sits in the. House of Commons. He admitted that' there would be in the first year forty-five millions and in the second year seventy-five millions loss of revenue, but this could be counter-balanced by rigid cuts in expenditure, including five and a quarter millions spent on Imperial preference and Empire marketing, the abolition of which, he said, would not hurt anyone.
