CAR OCCUPANTS ESCAPE UNHURT By Telegraph.-—Press association. Christchurch, January 12. With hopes of reaching Springfield and then trucking his car to Otira, Archie G. McAlpine set out with two others from Christchurch about 5 a.m. A few minutes after 5 a.m. his car was disabled at the Riccarton railway crossing. The car had almost cleared the rail's when it was hit bv the engine of a goods train on the left rear wing. The impact spun the car round to make it face in the opposite direction to which it was going and halt in the channelling. The occupants escaped unhurt and the car received trifling damage.
