AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS By Telegraph.—press association. Auckland, January 4. The Auckland provincial swimming championships were held in the tepid bath. to-night. In the 226 yards men’s breaststroke, N. K. Sylon equalled the record of 3min. 9 4-ssec by E. C. Heard, Canterbury. The 100 yards was won by J. P. Farrell, the eighteen-year-old son of J. Farrell, well known manager for J. C. Williamson, Ltd. In the 440 yards ladies’ Miss W. Grant effected a surprise, defeating Miss J. Bell, holder of the title. Following are the results of the principal events:— 100 Yards (men). —J. P. Farrell, 1; J. Enright, 2; L. Fairgray, 3. Won by a foot. Time, GO 2-ssec. 410 Yards (ladies). —Miss W. Grant, 1; Miss J. Bell, 2. Only starters. Won by fifteen yards. Time, Gmin. 31 2-ssec. 220 Yards (men’s) breaststroke. N. K. Sylon, 1; T. Lowe, 2; Miss G. Pidgeon, swimming against time, was third. Won by twenty yards. Time, Gmin. 9 4-ssec. Miss Pidgeon’s time was 3min. 37sec. 229 Yards (men’s).—G. Bridgson. 1; J. Enright, 2; E. V. Cunnold, 3. Won by eight yards. Time, 2min. 35 3-ssec. RECORDS BROKEN By telegraph.—Prt.ss association. Wanganui, January 4. At the Wanganui swimming championships to-night two local records were broken. In the 100 yards ladies’ championship Miss Natalie Stratton won in 72sec., the previous record being 77 3-5 sec. In the 220 girls’ intermediate championship the same swimmer won in 3min. 18 3-ssee., the previous record being 3min. 29 3-ssec.
