SHEFFIELD SHIELD CRICKET

...» NEW SOUTH WALES v. QUEENSLAND (Rec. January 4, 10.30 p.m.) Sydney, January 4. In the Sheffield Shield match against New South Wales, Queensland, in the second innings,, made 590 (Higgins 179, O’Connor 32, Rowe 147, Oxenham 50, Gough 42). McNamee took two wieketsfor 110, Morgan two for 95, and Bradman two for 41. New South Wales had one wicket down for 4 runs when stumps were drawn. The weather was fine and the wicket good, but late in the afternoon rain commenced. The batsmen dug themselves in, playing very carefully in order to avoid an innings defeat. When that danger was removed the cricket brightened, and the score mounted at a fairly fast rate, despite a great number of changes in the bowling. Rowe played a sound, careful innings, but an easy chance of stumping him when 54 was missed by hove.

[New South Wales, in the first innings, made 639, towards which Kipnax contributed 315 not out.]
