BULK OIL TRADE

BIG SHIPMENT OF FUEL AND MOTOR SPIRIT

OVER 44,000 TONS THIS MONTH

A remarkable feature of the shipping trade of Wellington this mouth is the number of bulk oil cargoes arriving from California and the East. The O. A. Knudsen arrived on November 3 with 11,600 tons of fuel oil from San Luis Obispo, California, and as she left port two days later she passed the Petricola, arriving from Singapore and Tarakau with 7900 tons of motor spirit and a quantity of kerosene.

This week-end saw the arrival of the Antietam from San Luis with 9190 tons of fuel oil, and the Buccinum from Tarakau with about 7000 tons of motor spirit. The Union Company’s tanker Otokia is due from San Luis on Wednesday with 8780 tons of oil fuel.

The five shipments for the month will total over 29,500 tons of oil fuel, and 14,900 tons of motor spirit. The Pulpit Point is on her way from San Francisco with a large shipment of motor spirit, and is due in New Zealand early next month.
