H. Jenkinson, who opposed it strongly, on the ground that it would be an annual drain for the rest of their existence, with no benefit commensurate with the outlay. A letter was received from the Wellington town clerk m connection with the suggestion for one big water supply, for Wellington and surrounding districts. The Mayor stated that the plan was to conserve the whole of the water at th< head of the Hutt River, all bodies lookin- at it from the broad standpoint of the mutual benefit of greater Wellington. All that was required at that stage was the council’s moral support, and he himself would heartily support the scheme, provided Eastbourne could bo associated with the main organisation. A report would be forthcoming at a later stage.
