MISS BROWNE GIVES MDLLE. LENGLEN HARD GAME. Portland (Oregon), December 5. Forced to twenty games before she defeated Miss Mary K. Browne, 11—9, in the first set of an exhibition , match on Saturday evening, Mdlle. Lenglen reeled off the court. She announced that she was suffering from a bad cold and was unable to continue the match, which is considered to have been Mdlle. Lenglen’s hardest-fought contest of her present tour, and the longest since she won the championship. INTER-CLUB MATCHES. - The first series of the third grade /inter-club competition will be played on ‘ the association tennis courts at Miramar on Saturday next, commencing at 1 p.m. sharp. Out of the twenty clubs entered for this grade, ten only will be engaged next Saturday. If no team has so far been selected, or there is any alteration in the team originally sent in, secretaries of clubs in the following draw should submit the names of players chosen, so as to reach the secretary of the association not later than Thursday evening next. The following is the draw: —Pc tone v. Lyall Bay, St. Peter’s v. Rongotai, Roseneath v. Victoria Tennis Club, Karon v. Hataitai, Lower Hutt v. Highland Park. New Zealand’s official Tennis Ball for 20 years has been Ayres’ "Championship” Ball. Made in Britain by British labour and British capital Perfect in flight and bounce.—Advt.
