Delegates to the Miners’ Federation duly decided to refer the Government’s proposals for settlement of the - coal strike to the districts, and the delegates returned to their districts in a chastened, dis. gruntled moot). PARTIAL RESUMPTION IN WALES MEN’S EXECUTIVE WITHDRAWS OPPOSITION (■Rec. October 2, 1.20 a.iu.) London, October 1. The Rhondda Valley local coal miners’ executive has informed the management of the- Ocean Colliery, employing 11,000 men, that it no longer opposes the men’s return. It is expected that 60 per cent, will resume work immediately.—Sydney “Sun” Cable. BOOM IN COAL SHARES STRIKE TERMINATION EXPECTED (Rec. October 1, 7.30 p.m.) London, September 30. A boom in coal shares has set in on the Cardiff Stock Exchange, speculators who foresaw the termination of the strike making small fortunes. Simultaneously there was a wild rush to btty coal at the pitheads, and prices are soaring. GRANTS FROM ABROAD BUT LITTLE MORE IN VIEW (Rec. October 1, 10.40 p.m.) London, September 30. Messrs. A. J. Cook and H. Smith (secretary and president respectively of the British Miners’ Federation) attended an International Miners’ Federation meeting, at which it*was reported that British miners had received grants totalling £1,261,000 from abroad to September 27, and further sums from zlmerica, New Zealand, and elsewhere. It is understood that prospects of further substantial support are very slender. The German delegates argued against the ban on coal exports. Ihe meeting was adjourned.
