BANK-NOTE SCANDAL

STATEMENT BY PREMIER OF HUNGARY

, GOVERNMENT WISHED 1 MATTER CLEARED UP ■

Budapest, January 20.

"There is going to be a great confrontation,” promised Count Bethlen, Premier, in a speech in the National Assembly, during a debate on the bank note scandal. The Assembly was packed with Deputies and the public. The proceedings were most animated, and , much of Count Bethlen’s speech was inaudible above the din of members of the Left with loud choruses of "Resign.” There was a counter demonstration by Government supporters standing and cheering the Premier. The latter emphasised that the Government was not evading its responsibility. The ascertainment of the facts was the business of the Courts rather than of the Governments. Though the Government wished to clear up a political background, if such existed, he repeated that there was no trace of any revolutionary schemes.—Reuter.
