THIRTY SCHOOLS CONSIDERING VISITS Bz Tulegrafh—Press AssociationDunedin, January 7, The attendance at the exhibition yesterday was 23,885, and the grand total up to last night .was 842,710. The current special attractions are the axemen’s championship carnival, and the championship musical and elocutionary competitions. The competitions festival opened yesterday, and the events were broadcasted. Visitors arc still coming into Dunedin in large numbers, and the daily attendance at the exhibition has not once fallen below 23,000 this week. Grot interest was taken in the axe men’s competitions, and a large crowd at night watched fascinated under the glare'of arc lamps on the Sports Ground as the bright blades cut through big logs at incredible speed. Many inquiries Lave been received from distant schools desiring to take advantage of the holiday period to visit the exhibition. Five inquiries came to hand yesterday, and in all thirty such inquiries have been received. The inquiries have come not only from Invercargill and Otago Central, but from Christchurch, South Canterbury. the West Coast, and even as.far afield as Palmerston North, Feilding, and the King Country The executive mid the committee have made repeated representations t > the Government asking for a £1 for £1 subsidy on the cost of school trips to the exhibition, but so far without success.
