HOLIDAY TRAFFIC

SOUTH ISLAND FAVOURED With the arrival of the holidays the spirit of travel is in the air, and manv people during the last day or so have been making their arrangements to leave Wellington for the festive season. Railway bookings have been fairlv heavy at the central booking office. There has been a greater demand for South Island tickets than for the North, and this is directly attributable to the Dunedin exhibition. In some instances reservations for that quarter have been made for as far ahead as February. No returns are vet available from the central booking office, and when they are there will be little prospect of a comparison being made with last year’s figures, since many of the tickets for the south have been sold as well by the Union Steam Sship Company in conjunction with their own steamer, tickets. Inquiries made yesterday elicited the information that the ferry traffic had been exceptionally heavy.
