(From Our Own Correspondent.) Masterton, November 16. Jm response to a petition from a number of settlers in the Kaxparoro district, the Mauriceville County Council has decided to strike a specml ratlug area and raise a loan of <4.200 tor metalling part of tlie Kaiparoro Road. The council has also decided to raise hIOCO for the reconstruction of bridges, being part of a A 10,000 loan aheady authorised by poll. , It was reported to the Tararua Power Board at its last meeting that on the hist meter leading the revenue was not sufficient by half to meet the expenses. Nineteen members attended the openingshoot of the Mhstcrton-Opaki lulle Club at Fairview range on Saturday, q McKay, with a handicap of 3, won tlie trophy, the ranges being 300 yards and 500 yards. Top scorers oft the rifle were J. McKenzie and R. J. King. The Fire Underwriters’ Association has decided to place Eketahuna on the ‘•K’ instead of the “F schedule, which will mean a general, reduction in premiums from the beginning ot the year. Owing to two proposed consumers having decided not to give the customary guarantee, the Tararua Power Board has decided that it cannot install the power lines to Ngaturi at. present. Mr. J. C. Jordan, who has been in charge of the produce department of the local branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company, has been promoted to the position of agent for the company in Hastings. Prior to leaving for Hastings this morning. Mr. Jordan was the recipient of a prosent'alion from the members of the staff. / , Ho will be succeeded here by Mr. F. J Bettelbeim, who has acted in the capacity of Assistant for some time.
