HEAD OF POLICE
COMMISSIONER A. H. WRIGHT RETIRING Mr A. H Wright, Commissioner of Police since 1922. will be retiring from office in January next. The retiring Commissioner has seen 43 years’ service in the force. He was bom in Gloucester,' England, on April 8, 1861, and came to New Zealand in 1882, when he enlisted in the police force at Invercargill The following year he became a member of the clerical staff at Invercargill, being there eight years before being transferred to Dunedin. He was made a first-class constable ill 1893, coming to the clerical branch in Wellington; in 1898 he was promoted to sergeant, to sub-inspector in 1906, and chief clerk of the Department, to inspector in 1911, and given charge of the Thames district; to superintendent at Dunedin in 1915, and transferred to Auckland in 1919, where he remained until 1922. He was au officer with a verv creditable record, wide experience, knowledge, sound judgment, and good capabilities generally.
