AFFORESTATION

A short tour in connection with afforestation matters in the South Island is to be undertaken by the Minister in Charge of Forestry (Hon. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes) this week. In company with Mr. Macintosh Ellis, Director of Forestry, the Minister will leave for Picton to-day. Various parts of the sounds will be visited to-morrow in connection with afforestation projects, and the Minister will stay the night at Havelock. Upper Motueka is also to be visited, after which the Minister will be joined by Mr. McGavock, Conservator of State Forests, before proceeding to Hokitika If circumstances permit, the Minister will also be present as Minister of Defence at the inspection of the Nelson College Cadets on Wednesday afternoon by Colonel Burgess, Act-ing-Commandajit of the New Zealand Military Forces. Sir Heaton Rhodes will return to Christchurch during-the week-end*
