REPORTED TO BE STILL DANGEROUS BIG GROUPS OF BANDITS OPERATING DRUSE PEACE OVERTURES The position in Syria Is described by French correspondents as very grave, and the insurgents are attacking all the French garrisons. General Duport, Acting-High Commissioner in Syria pending M. de Jouvenel’s arrival, has informed the Government that the situation between Damascus and Homs, where four large groups of bandits are operating, is still dangerous. He reveals that Druse peace overtures have been made, but indicates that until normality is re-established in the region of Damascus, it is unlikely that negotiations will be carried to a definite conclusion. 'lhe immediate problem is to establish order, which he points out at present depends on the availability of reinforcements, which are now arriving from Morocco and France. —“The Times.”
ALL FRENCH GARRISONS ATTACKED REBELS ENTER TWO TOWNS (Rec. November 15, 5.5. p.m.) London, November 14. Coinciding with messages from French correspondents in Syria describing the situation as very grave, and stating that the insurgents are attacking all the French garrisons, “The Times’ ” Haifa correspondent reports that fifteen hundred rebels entered Hasbeiva and hoisted the Arab. flag.. Rebels also entered Mcrjovun.—“The Times.”
