AMUNDSEN’S PLANE
WILKINS FAILS TO SECURE IT Oslo, November 13. Captain Wilkins’s final negotiations to purchase Roald Amundsen’s aeroplane N 25 have failed, as the Americans offered a higher price than he could. Lieutenant Ellsworth cabled from New York guaranteeing to collect sufficient money in the United States to enable the Norwegian Aero Club to purchase and keep the aeroplane. The ,club accented the offer, so no sale is now possible.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. [Captain G. H. Wilkins, M.C., of South Australia was with Stephansson's Expedition in the Arctic, and on his return in 1917 joined the Australian Living Corps and won the ’Military Cross. He attempted a flight to Australia to win the £lO,OOO oTered by the Commonwealth Government, but did not get further than Crete owing to a breakdown of his engine.. Tn 1920 lie went with Shackleton in the Guest as 'naturalist, and has latelv been exploring the wilds of Australia’s Ear North on behalf of the British Museum. I
