An exciting interlude occurred during the boys’ pony jumping contest at the Wanganui Show (relates the “Chronicle”). After negotiating a hurdle successfully, Master F. Hamblin's Comet bolted around the course. All of the young rider’s attempts to stop the pony in its mad career proved futile. When the pony reached the starting post again, an official attempted to pull it up by means of throwing a coat over its head. This, however, was unavailing, but eventually, r’tcr the animal had tried itself over a few hurdles, it was halted by a group of spectators. The plucky boy rider stuck to his mount throughout, and earned the ovation lie received from the crowd when he finally dismounted/
