“IN THE DARK”
4 EASTBOURNE CARNIVAL BALANCE-SHEET When asked by a representative of U'he Dominion on Saturday if there was any likelihood of the Eastbourne Carnival balance sheet being made public, Mr. W- H. F. Marsden, who was honorary auditor of the carnival held in February, 1923, was not prepared to make a general statement. He agreed, however, that it was common knowledge that he had “tagged” the balance-sheet, but further than that be was not in a position to say anything. He had handed the balance-sheet to Mr. F. H. Mather, ihen Mayor of Eastbourne, and chairman of the Carnival Executive Committee, as far back as January of this year. Since then he had seen nothing more of it. The reporter also interviewed Councillor E. A- Dawson and Councillor H. M, Jones, who are members of the executive, on the subject, but both expressed themselves as “in the dark” in regard to it. They said that they did not sec how the balance-sheet could be made public unless the residents of Eastbourne took steps to compel the Carnival Committee to announce its contents.
