DOG GIVES THE ALARM By Telegraph-—Press Association. Christchurch, December 20Barking and wnjniixg at the bedibom window, a collie ddg awakened the residents of a house at- Upper Riccarton early this nioraing, and ei-abled them to escape from the burning budding. William McKay and his wife, who live at 101 Waixuairi Road, , were awakened by the dog at 3.30 o clock. They smelled smoke and rushed out to find the kitchen ablaze, and it cad evidently been burning for some time. The house is in rather a lonely spot, there being no water and no tire bngrade in the vicinity, and McKay and his wife had to stand by and v-atch their home being burned to the ground. All that was saved was the clothing in which they stood.
